Unfortunately for Stallone and the audience on the other side of the screen, the derivative, turgid, forgettable results won’t get mentioned in a career retrospective, let alone among the ever-expanding list of must-see entries in a genre already well past its peak.įor Stallone, however, it’s better late than never when it involves the superhero genre. Having said that, PoA still remains my favourite HP movie, and is also the most standalone movie of the series, and Cuarón’s brilliant direction, focusing on character’s growth and making the whole environment feel magical, paired with long moving camera takes, makes it stand apart from the rest. With the ever increasing length of original material, makers were left with no choice but to make a trade off between detailing plot and maximizing viewership, and we know from FB that detailing plot can have catastrophic consequences in film media. This works especially with Potter viewership who generally do rewatch marathons, as lack of none of the omitted details affected the experience heavily. Some other details were pushed subtly and left to viewers understanding, and ability to connect the dots, which, IMHO, did work most of the times.Īn example of this was Marauders’ identities, when Voldemort addresses Peter Pettigrew as Wormtail and Moody calling Sirius Padfoot. Though it erases too much of information (which many find crucial) from the book, I was not dumbstruck and enjoyed it throughout. I read the book after having watched the movie, and as already mentioned, the first 2 points were indeed covered, and points 4 and 5 were handled nicely too.
